New Names Mean Easier Product Identification
HY-A, ALJ, JP-X, LBS II - Confused by all the "alphabet soup" on the labels of most herbal products? If
you are, don't feel like the Lone Ranger... lots of people (including yours truly) have been confused for a
long time by the cryptic naming conventions forced onto the herb industry by a joint effort of the Congress
and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). For many years now it has been "illegal" for herbalists and
herbal product manufacturers to actually say what the products do.
Thanks in large part to the efforts of your congressional lobbyist, Clinton Miller*, things
are slowly changing. Take a look at the front of the new Master Price List (dated July 1999) for example.
Seven NSP products this month have a new name that is more descriptive of what they do. For example, formula
KC-X is now Thyroid Activator and SKL is now Skeletal Strength.
Now, what do you suppose that these two products will do for your body? Do you think this will make it
easier for you to remember which herbs do what in the body? Better yet, do you think this will make it
easier to tell your friends and clients about what Nature's Sunshine Products can do for them?
Be careful, though. As herbalists and natural health practitioners, we are still prohibited from
diagnosing, treating, prescribing, and curing—these words are reserved, by law, for licensed medical
doctors. We can teach and instruct our clients about the benefits of natural foods and the way these foods
work in the human body, but we must be careful to allow them to select for themselves the foods and products
that they think will be most beneficial for their own body. Can we “recommend” or “suggest” particular
products? The answer is “maybe”—but I wouldn't “recommend” it. It is far better to simply inform your
client, in plain, non-technical language, of the benefits of nutritional products and leave the selection
entirely up to them. For more information on this subject, be sure to read the enclosed information sheet,
"Legal Considerations for Alternative & Natural Health Practitioners."

Focus Attention
Soothing the Mind
Millions of children and adults alike suffer from over-stimulated and undernourished brains. Mental
undernourishment can affect the entire nervous system as the body tries to compensate for missing nutrients.
Even normal tasks can become difficult.
Mental malnutrition or imbalance is often lumped under the name Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). When
hyperactivity is involved, it's called Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Thankfully, Nature's
Sunshine has teamed up with Mother Nature to develop Focus Attention.
BENEFITS
Focus Attention provides important nutrients for normal brain-stimulation levels. In addition, it helps
modulate brain activity and energy levels. It also supports blood circulation and neurotransmitters in the
brain.
HOW IT WORKS
Nature's Sunshine Focus Attention is a special formulation of herbal nutrients that help protect the body
from undesirable side effects caused by drugs or exposure to toxic chemicals, food additives, pesticides,
etc. Focus Attention combines powerful nutrients required for quiet, balanced mental activity. By supporting
the body with a wide range of high-quality nutrients, balance and function may be restored.
As an added benefit, other body systems reacting to mental stress are often relieved as the brain
receives needed nutrients.
NSP ADVANTAGE
• Soothes the brain nutritionally without using harsh chemicals.
• Provides vital nutrients to enhance learning and memory.
• Contains several powerful antioxidants to quench damaging free radicals.
• Includes Melissa, making this a unique formula for soothing both the nervous and circulatory
systems—of prime importance for proper brain function.
